On Maundy Thursday, April 8th 1993, a Major Seminary was founded by Bishop Kazimierz Górny in the newly created Diocese of Rzeszów. The Seminary forms a part of the Blessed Bishop Józef Sebastian Pelczar Institute of Rzeszów and prepares future priests for the Diocese and for the Church. Through their spiritual, intellectual and pastoral formation students respond fully to Christ's calling „Follow me and I will make you fishers of men"(Mk 1,17).

The Major Seminary of Rzeszów is located in a former construction workers' hotel. The transformation of the building into a Seminary required the addition of a chapel, kitchen, cafeteria as well as maintenance facilities. This was all made possible by the generous help of benefactors within the Diocese of Rzeszów, among municipal authorities of the city of Rzeszów as well as benefactors from abroad in Germany, Belgium, the United States and the Netherlands.

Along with staff and students, the Seminary houses a community of the Franciscan Family of Mary Sisters. They oversee the domestic functioning of the Institution.

The Major Seminary of Rzeszów is affiliated with the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Theological Academy in Kraków. The Philosophy and Theology faculties are staffed by over 30 lecturers. Most of them come from the Diocese of Rzeszów itself and the others from the neighbouring dioceses of Tarnów, Przemyśl and Lublin. The Bishop of the diocese has undertaken a number of steps to ensure that the Seminary will have its own diocesan staff. The chapel is at the heart of the priestly formation of the students. It was consecrated on June 10"1 1994 by the Apostolic Nuncio to Poland, Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk. Seminarians every day spend a lot of time there on individual and collective prayer. The offering of the Eucharist is the high point of daily prayer at the Seminary.

The Seminary community is grateful to its benefactors. They are remembered in daily prayer. Mass is offered each Sunday for the intention of all who help our Seminary through their spiritual and financial support.
We join in the Holy Father's concern for the Church and for priestly vocations. We pray with him:

„Jesus Christ, our redeemer and mediator who said that harvest is great but laboures few, we beg You to call many young men to the priestly life. Fill their hearts with your strength and light so that they might place their trust in your calling. Consecrate them in the truth. Amen ".
